COMNAP Publications

A number of guidelines are developed by COMNAP's Expert Groups and Networks with the aim of assisting National Programs implementing common procedures and practices to enhance operational effectiveness and safety. Whenever appropriate, these guidelines are forwarded to the Antarctic Treaty bodies, which may endorse them and officially recommend that all nations signatories to the Antarctic Treaty follow these guidelines.

COMNAP publishes or supports the production and distribution of a number of manuals and handbooks that provide National Antarctic Programs and others with guidance in specialist fields of activity. Some of these publications may be produced by, or in conjunction with, other Antarctic or International organisations.

In support of our aim to share best practice in managing support to science, COMNAP regularly convenes workshops on topical issues. Many of these workshops result in the development of 'reference' documents such as voluntary guidelines, manuals or handbooks. Some workshops produce self-contained reports or proceedings, available here. In some cases, authors of workshop presentations have agreed that their presentations can be made publicly available. Those presentations are also available here in PDF format.

The COMNAP Antarctic Station Catalogue project began as a collaboration with the EU-PolarNet on their European Polar Infrastructures Project.  Now, information from all 30 COMNAP Member National Antarctic Programs on their Antarctic stations can be found in the Antarctic Station Catalogue. The catalogue was produced in August 2017 as a tool for National Antarctic Programs in support of international cooperation in science.  It also is an informative tool for the Antarctic community and for the general public.  You can also use the GIS interface on the COMNAP "Our Members" webpage, to access Antarctic infrastructure information.

In celebration of the 25th anniversary of COMNAP, COMNAP published in December 2013 "A Story of Antarctic Co-operation: 25 Years of the Council of Managers of National Antarctic Programs" by Gillian Wratt, ISBN 978-0-473-24776-8.  For information on ordering a copy of the book email: sec@comnap.aq.
